Picnic Hill

Picnic Hill is an event that occurs on the second Friday of every month from 4 to 10pm, it is a haven of live music, street art, craft beer and cider, lawn games, and Brisbane’s most gourmet food trucks. With your finest picnic blanket in hand, source a spot on the lawn to park the family and soak up the good vibes (and good flavours) with convoys including King of the Wings, Jaffle Schmaffle, Socal Tacos, Notorious E.A.T and more.

It is a gold coin entry with all earnings made going straight towards the Redcliffe Youth Space to help support the youth at risk in the greater Moreton Bay community. The event was created by the first group of young people who participated in the workskills program at the Redcliffe Youth Space whilst completing a business traineeship. Picnic Hill continues to thrive one year later with an increasing amount of community involvement and support.

St Mark’s Anglican Social Services Fund Raising coach tour to St Helena Island

ST MARK’S ANGLICAN SOCIAL
SERVICES

Is having a fund raising COACH TOUR TO
St Helena Island

Saturday 02 September 2017

Come and have a relaxing day as we travel to Wynnum/ Manly, where we will board the Cat o’Nine Tails to St Helena Island National Park and learn the history of St Helena Island. St Helena is located in Moreton Bay 5 km from the mouth of the Brisbane River and about 8km north-east of Manly. The Island has a fascinating history. Its most significant period was when it functioned as a high-security colonial prison from 1867. The overcrowding in Brisbane’s gaols resulted in the conversion of the buildings, originally intended for a quarantine station, into accommodation for prisoners. Prison labour was used for all activities on the island, from the construction of buildings and roadways to growing, processing and cooking of food.

Coach Departs: 8:00am from St Mark’s Anglican Church, Winnetts Road Daisy Hill

Cat 0’Nine Ferry Departs Wynnum/Manly at 10:00am and returns at 3:00pm

Coach Returns to St Mark’s at 4:10pm

Out & About: Meet your farmer tour

We may be a big city but Brisbane is also home to many farmers passionate about delivering the best and freshest produce direct to our plates.

As part of Tastes like Sunshine, Museum of Brisbane is taking a small group on an intimate tour of some of the city’s farms, introducing you to the people behind the produce and providing on-site tastings.

The morning kicks off with a guided tour of Tastes like Sunshine where you will discover snippets of Brisbane’s local food history, learn how food is inspiring artists, and take part in an exploration of the future of food.

The Long Lunch

The Long Lunch is the conversation piece of Tastes like Sunshine.

Over a home-cooked plate of food, participants reflect on the exhibition and meditate on their relationship with food: What are the cultural stories of the food we eat? Where does our food actually come from? Who gets to eat?

The Long Lunch is a durational event. Come armed with conversation and an empty stomach. You are welcome to come and go as you please but also consider your place in the discussios, vacate when you are ready, so that someone else’s voice can be heard.

This is a free, drop-in event. No bookings required.
