African Hearts Art Exhibition – Perfect for Mother’s Day!

The African Hearts Youth Team hosted an art workshop in Uganda with students from the African Hearts Junior School, that included some former street children. Local artist, Nicole de la Mar, is showcasing these amazing creations into our very first African Hearts Art Exhibition. Alongside these pieces, also available for sale, using colourful signature African Fabrics, are various items of soft furnishings. Other craft/jewellery made by the African Hearts widows will also be available to purchase. All art is created by Ugandan children. They are perfect for corporate wall spaces or as a mothers day gift. Please support this worthwhile fundraiser where all profits are donated to African Hearts!

Queensland Rose Society Autumn Rose Show

The Queensland Rose Society’s annual Autumn Rose Show will be held over the Mothers’ Day weekend of 11-12 May 2019, at the Auditorium, Brisbane Botanical Gardens, Mount Coot-tha.

Why not bring Mum along? She will love the sight and scent of hundreds of colourful, fragrant blooms, all in one location.

Throughout the show, there will be friendly and experienced rose growers from the Queensland Rose Society on hand to answer your questions, and give you advice about which are the best roses to grow in Queensland and how to care for them. This will be a great opportunity to view a wide variety of roses, and decide which ones you like best.

There will be cut roses, potted roses and gardening products for sale, as well as a variety of ‘rosy items’ and refreshments. Perfect gifts for mum!

FREE LIONS HEALTH AND WELLBEING EXPO

Seniors can find out more about how to live a healthier and more productive life at the annual Macgregor Lions Club free seniors health and well-being expo in May.
Topics covered include ageing – engagement, assessment and wellness, University of the Third Age, diabetes and heart issues, anxiety and depression, understanding pensions, preventing and preparing for fire and other emergencies. There will also be 35 information stalls. What Matters to You in Relation to Ageing, End-of-Life Care and Dying

The focus group will be facilitated by Health Consumers Queensland and will be held before the start of Palliative Care Queensland’s Compassionate Communities Conversation series.

Health Consumers Queensland together with COTA Queensland, Palliative Care Queensland and Carers Queensland are partnering with Queensland Health to hear directly from health consumers, carers and community members who have experience of ageing, end-of-life care and dying.

Your feedback will be collated into a report to inform Queensland Health and its committees and projects currently working in the area of frail, aged, palliative care and end-of-life care.

The focus group will run for one hour and attending consumers and carers will receive a $40 gift voucher for their time from Health Consumers Queensland. A maximum of 20 people can attend each focus group, and an RSVP is essential.

BADideas: CreativeMornings

CreativeMornings is a breakfast lecture series for the creative community. Every month, on a Friday morning, hundreds of people gather in more than 190 cities around the world to celebrate their collective creative talent and promote an open space to connect with like-minded individuals.

From design legends to hometown heroes, speakers are selected by each chapter based on a global theme. For BRISBANE ART DESIGN (BAD), the theme is ‘Preserve’ which will be explored by Sam Daley, Product Design Director at Liquid Interactive.

Sam will wax lyrical on the value of cross-disciplinary design based on his 18 years working in the digital design and production sector.
