Based on Barbara Robinson’s 1972 classic book, Dallas Jenkins Brings The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to life.
The creator, productor, director of acclaimed series The Chosen has been working for over 15 years to secure the rights to bring the beloved book to the big screen.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever has sold over 7 million copies since it was published in 1972 and centres on the Herdmans – ‘absolutely the worst kids in the history of the world’.
The story of the Herdmans, a group of six siblings notorious in their town for their mischief. Known for lying, stealing, and bullying, the Herdmans are the last kids anyone would expect in a Christmas pageant.
But when they show up at church looking for snacks and end up taking over the play’s lead roles, they turn their community’s holiday upside down.
Through their chaotic – and often hilarious – take on the traditional nativity story, the Herdmans might just end up teaching everyone the true meaning of Christmas.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever is packed with talent, including Judy Greer (Ant-Man, 13 Going on 30), Molly Belle Wright, Pete Holmes (Crashing), and Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls).
With Jenkins at the helm, audiences can look forward to the same storytelling depth he brought to The Chosen, now set against the backdrop of a classic Christmas tale.
