Joe and Iris have a new Saturday morning show on 96five, and have just launched Spotlight, an on air segment that creates space for local artists to share their work with everyone in Brisbane.
Spotlight is a short, pre-recorded interview where artists can introduce themselves to the 96five audience, and have their music heard on air.
96five has had a long history of supporting local talent and highlighting the best of what the Brisbane music scene has to offer.
With most upcoming artists looking to social media to share their music with the world, Joe and Iris understand the importance of being recognised in your home town.
Once an audience can connect with an artist on a personal level, they’re much more likely to become a regular listener and keep up to date with new releases – that’s what Spotlight is all about.
Several Brisbane artists have already been featured on Saturday’s newest segment, including Faith Kayrooz, Ethan Beer and Grace Graves.
To tell your story, and share your music with the 96five audience, email [email protected], pop Spotlight in the subject, and be a part of Saturday mornings with Joe and Iris.
New and upcoming artists rarely get opportunities to share their story and the meaning of their music with new listeners. Spotlight creates space for this.
“Miracle came from just looking at a picture of snow, and I was reminded of the first time that I saw snow and it was a moment of hope. I think I wanted to write a song that hopefully speaks to the heart of so many people, which is we’re all fighting battles. We all have our own turmoil and struggles, but amidst it all, we can still have hope that there are good things to come.” – Faith Kayrooz on her single Miracle
Spotlight also provides an opportunity to learn about an artist’s personal inspirations.
“I grew up on Ed Sheeran; I was obsessed with him, and I think a lot of the reason why I’m into music now and still going with it is because of Ed and how inspired I’ve always been by him.” – Ethan Beer
Finally, it provides a safe space for artists to open up and express their true heart behind the music.
“It’s essentially a conversation between me and Jesus. And I’m just like, I’ve had enough. I don’t want to be this girl I’ve been, so help me out. Cause I actually don’t know how to do this without you.” – Grace Graves on her single Sad Girl
