The phrase ‘everything is on the way up’ is usually a positive statement.

However, in the past month, there has been a lot of uncertainty when it comes to the cost of living.

‘On the way up’ is petrol prices, interest rates, rental increases and basic food staples and many people in Brisbane are asking, ‘how can I stretch an already thin budget?’

One organisation, Lighthouse Care is helping take the sting out of the price of groceries.

Lighthouse Care is a non-profit charity that supports people with emergency food relief. Whether it’s the famous $25 trolley or their low cost grocery stores, Lighthouse Care are passionate about bringing hope to people who are struggling.

Their low cost grocery stores at Loganholme and Hillcrest (with home delivery and click and collect options available) stock brands that people know and trust which can help save up to 70% compared to major supermarket prices. You can also purchase a $25 trolley filled with essential groceries like bread, milk, fruit, vegetables plus a wide range of varying items including products like yoghurt, cheese, chips, frozen foods, juice and more.

Along with saving a significant amount of money in a grocery shop, when you shop at Lighthouse Care, the funds go towards helping more people with emergency food relief.

96five’s Ken and Nicky spoke with founder, Debbie Hill about how much this service helps people who are struggling financially.

“The joy for me and the passion for why we do, what we do – you see people walk in with the weight of the world on their shoulders thinking how are we going to survive, how are we going to get through And then you see them turning around with a skip in there step, their shoulders back and a bit of hope” Debbie said.

Lighthouse Care aims to support every member in the community no matter their journey. Debbie shared how Lighthouse Care are passionate about providing dignity to everyone who walks through the door.

“Dignity is key and everyone is welcome” Debbie said.

“I have seen executives in their 50’s never expecting to lose a job through to the homeless with bare feet. Everyone is treated with dignity”.
