A Moment of Silence for the Iconic and Now Discontinued iPod

It's time to move on! Made redundant with the introduction of the iPhone, Apple bids adieu to the iconic iPod after 21 years.

Introduced in 2001, the iPod was the first MP3 player to boast 1,000 songs and a 10-hour battery into a 6.5-ounce package.

Since its introduction over 20 years ago, the iPod has changed the game for people who love to listen to music on the go. With the invention of the iPhone and now smart watches, the once revolutionary ‘1000 songs in your pocket’ iPod is now obsolete.

People are reacting to the news from Apple sharing their iPod memories including iPod collections and how the iPod was for many, their first Apple purchase.

“Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry — it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“Today, the spirit of iPod lives on. We’ve integrated an incredible music experience across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV.”
