It’s been a mentally and physically demanding season for Phoebe.
After multiple trips to the doctor and hospital it was discovered that her 4-year-old son Denis had a brain tumor. He was rushed to surgery that same day.
Following successful removal of the tumor, Denis underwent 33 radiation treatments which he completed last month at the Ronald McDonald House.
“It was shocking. You don’t know how to feel” Phoebe shared with 96five’s Ken and Nicky.
“We’re back home now, waiting for the next checkup next month.”
Phoebe has been by Denis’s side 24/7 since his surgery in April. Denis’ dad, Timaru, is a contractor and has been limited in the time he has been able to take off work. Extended family and their church community have been coming together to support the Tafa family including siblings Jenifa and Maggie.
Phoebe was nominated by a 96five SOS by a church friend, Bronwyn.
“It has been a mentally and physically demanding few months for Phoebe. Particularly in the 24/7 caring role but her faith has remained strong” Bronwyn said.
“Throughout this time she hasn’t had time for herself. A little bit of pampering on her birthday would be a lovely surprise.”
