The Love Chip started out as a bit of fun for Adam and Josh but it’s since taken on a life of it’s own. Especially once 96five’s Ken and Nicky saw it online.

The story began last Monday morning. Nicky was scrolling Facebook marketplace and was delighted and confused by the weird items you could purchase. Sitting just under the Siamese’s nuggets that were priced at 20,000 dollars, she saw a Honey soy chicken heart shaped chip for $100.

After laughing about it together, Ken and Nicky decided to make an offer. It started with a cheeky bid of $2. The ‘Love Chip’ family counter offered with $96.50 which was negotiated down to $9.65.

Adam and 11 year old Josh, the owners of the chip came into the studio for a viewing of ‘The Love Chip’ and to complete the transaction.

However, there was a little more to the story than meets the eye.

Josh found the chip during a very special moment. The whole family had gone out to support Grandmas final chemotherapy treatment. To stand with her and celebrate that moment, Josh purchased a bag of chips.

“I order a packet of honey soy chicken chips and I stumble upon a heart shaped love chip” Josh said.

Dad suggested they put the chip on marketplace for a bit of a joke “and it’s turned into this”.

Adam can’t believe what’s happened since they created the online ad.

“The Love Chip has been a bit of a sensation really, a viral sensation” Adam said.

“It was literally just a joke between Josh and I we thought we’d put it online have a bit of fun for a couple of days. Something that we could watch each day for a couple of days and see if something fun might come from it.”

“We’ve had over 10,000 people view the ad, we’ve had hundreds of shares and a lot of funny comments. I’ve had people offer replacement packets of chips, I’ve had million dollar offers.”

The saga doesn’t end there. 96five listeners have been calling through with ideas of how to extend the joy and life of the ‘Love Chip’ including putting the chip in resin as a paperweight and a love seat to celebrate a wedding anniversary. One listener goes so far as to contact the council to make the ‘Love Chip’ love seat a reality.
